Lasting around 72 minutes, the Friendship Games movie tells the tale of the 4 yearly Friendship Games, where all of the regulars from Canterlot High meet up with their rival school Crystal Prep Academy to compete in a series of games with the aim to make friends and have fun, and bring harmony to all.
In fact things don't run smoothly (do they ever?) and one of the Crystal Prep students, Twilight Sparkle, accidentally closes the portal to Equestria and then the Equestria Girls start to lose their magic as Twilight Sparkle has it instead.
Without magic the Equestria Girls struggle to win the games, and the Crystal Prep's Coach plays the villain, telling Twilight Sparkle to basically cheat and use all of the stolen magic to win. Obviously this leads to a huge and dramatic conclusion to the Friendship Games, but I won't spoil it by telling you what happens.
My 5 and 7 year old boys enjoyed this movie, and after some discussion in the playground at school today it seems they aren't the only young men watching My Little Pony. In fact all of the parents I spoke to today said their sons watched it - so I'd love to see more males represented in the next film!
The Equestria Girls: Friendship Games is an enjoyable tale. The music is okay for me as an adult to have to listen to, and the storylines are witty with a few jokes that make you chuckle (plus a couple that the young children don't notice, but the adults and teenagers do). The pace is easy to follow, and there's enough action to keep children interested throughout.
If your children are fans of Equestria Girls, then ET Speaks From Home and Boo, Roo And Tigger Too have both shared some free printable colouring and activity sheets.
We've previously reviewed another Equestria Girls movie and shared some printables, and you can find our review of Rainbow Rocks here..
