Last Christmas The Incredible Adventures Of Professor Branestawm was a huge hit on BBC TV, and on November 30th it will be released for you to own on DVD and Digital Download. Just in time too, because this Christmas the successful team will be back with the second installment - The Further Adventures Of Professor Branestawm.

Based on the book by Norman Hunter, Professor Branestawm first appeared in 1933 and hasn't really changed since. The screenplay is written by the master of many roles Charlie Higson and it stars equally multi-talented Harry Hill as the Professor himself.

Professor Branestawm is the archetypal bumbling crazy Professor who always makes a mess of things, but somehow it always turns out right. The first Professor Branestawm book was published over 82 years ago, and since then 4 generations have had the pleasure of laughing at his books.

We've been sent a copy of The Incredible Adventures Of Professor Branestawm to review. We actually watched Professor Branestawm when it was on TV last Christmas, and my 7 year old remembered it immediately. He absolutely loved it, and laughed and chuckled aloud from beginning to end.

Rated Universal and suitable for all, it offers more to children of school age and above in our opinion, as the storyline can be a bit fast paced at times, and is too complicated for small children to grasp. They will however still enjoy the visual comedy and general gist of the show.

Likewise Professor Branestawm is a bit simplistic for older viewers and some of the humour is a bit clunky, but an enjoyable watch anyway, and I defy anyone to watch it with their children without smiling. Here's a short clip in case you missed it first time around....

The story centres (naturally) on Professor Branestawm, who's string of experiments put him in danger of being shut down by the local Council - who happen to want to knock down his 'Inventory' (science lab/shed) and build a munitions factory in it's place anyway. It is the Professor's job, along with his Housekeeper, Mrs Flittersnoop, and his friend Colonel Dedshott, to prove that he is entitled to keep his Inventory.

Harry Hill is ideal as the Professor, with his genuine intelligence, and back-to-front absent-minded way of doing things. The rest of the cast are mainly also very familiar and celebrated actors, and excellent in their roles, including Miranda Richardson, Simon Day, Ben Miller and Andrew Scarborough.

The Incredible Adventures Of Professor Branestawm has a runtime of approx 60 minutes, and a U rating. Available from 30th November 2015 on DVD and Digital Download priced around £7.99
