Alvinnn!!! And The Chipmunks: Summer Of Sport DVD Review and Giveaway

My 2 young boys love Alvin And The Chipmunks,  and were more than happy to preview the upcoming DVD release of their computer animated Nick Jr TV series Alvinnn!!! And The Chipmunks. Volume 1, Summer Of Sport, will be released on DVD on June 13th and contains the first 14 episodes from the show.

Summer Of Sport features all of the regular characters, including the guys - Alvin, Simon and Theodore, the Chipettes - Brittany, Jeanette and Eleanor, and their long-suffering carer David Seville.  The total runtime for the 14 episodes is over 2 1/2 hours, making this a pretty hefty DVD, but it is broken into short bites and universally rated, so it works for any child, whatever their attention span.

The episodes included are:

What a Gem
Family Spirit
Mutiny
Reality or Not
Safety Third
Mister Manners
A Room of One’s Own
Carts and Crafts
Kiss Conspiracy
House Guest
Mystic Mountain
Candy Confessions
Alvin’s Got a Brand New Bag
Warbie

A Bagdasarian Production – owner of the rights to the Chipmunks franchise – the series is created by Janice Karman, who voices Theodore, Brittany, Jeanette and Miss Smith, and produced by Ross Bagdasarian Jr. – the son of the Alvin and the Chipmunks’ creator and President of Bagdasarian Production – who voices Dave Seville, Alvin and Simon.

We've been sent a copy to review, and the first thing that struck me was how different the animation is to the previous movies. The Chipmunks look very different, far more human and far less 'animal'. They are still Chipmunks, but placing David Seville as the 'single parent' responsible for their care does seem more likely with the new look Chipmunks.

The storylines are easy to follow, with some depth to keep older children interested. I feel the Alvin And The Chipmunks TV Show is definitely better suited to children aged around 5+, younger children will find it harder to follow, and the characters are a little more mature than a lot of children's show characters.

My 6 an 7 year old boys really enjoyed Alvinnn!!! And The Chipmunks: Summer Of Sport, and have watched all of the DVD over the course of the last few days. They were really captivated by the stories, and my 7 year old especially got all of the jokes and found it hilarious. The Chipmunks have long been favourites of theirs, and they definitely weren't as confused by the difference in the animation as I was.

ALVINNN!!! AND THE CHIPMUNKS: SUMMER OF SPORT will be available on DVD from 13TH JUNE 2016. Available to pre-order now from HMV and ZAVVI. RRP: £9.99
