Draw With Me, Dad! and Colour With Me, Mum! Side-By-Side Book Review And Giveaway

If you are looking for a book to share with your child that is a bit different and will engage both of you equally, then Race Point Publishing may have just the thing. On May 1st they released 2 new books for you to 'Draw, Colour and Connect' with your child.

In today's busy life it's too easy to rush around and not spend time with your child, and when you do, it can be hard to get them to put down their screen and actually have a conversation. Draw With Me, Dad! and Colour With Me, Mum! hope to solve that problem by giving you something calm and active to do while you chat.

Draw With Me, Dad! by Jasmine Narayan and Chad Geren takes adult and children's colouring books and mashes them together with a surprisingly effective and beautiful result.

The book has lots of advice on use, including how to avoid being negative while interacting with your children and using the book. Usually I'm a bit put off by these sections, but it was incredibly well written by Family Psychologist Jasmine Narayan, and all logical and clear, with sensible advice and reminders.

Draw With Me, Dad is a way to sit together and connect without being sidetracked by screens or work. Just spend that time together, finding out more about each other. Each page not only has the beginnings of an illustration for the parent and child to work on together, but also prompts for conversation.

I knew my 7 year old would love this book, and he couldn't wait to sit and draw with his Dad. Surprisingly he chose one of the less 'mature' images - Draw With Me, Dad is truly suitable for a child of any age to draw, colour, scribble, mark-make or complete a work worthy of a gallery. A good piece of art is whatever you want it to be.

My 6 year old didn't join in colouring, he was happy to watch and join in the chat, but to me that proves the book works perfectly! It was a great way to end the evening before bedtime and a story book, it really left everyone calm and relaxed, and my boys settled to sleep really nicely.

Draw With Me, Dad! is a wide format 'side-by-side' book to read and use alongside your child, and is suitable for any age or ability. It has an astounding 208 pages, and a recommended price of £8.99. Well worth it in our opinion.
