100 Facts: Butterflies And Moths from Miles Kelly Review And Giveaway (2 Winners).

We've reviewed a few books for Miles Kelly before, and they're generally very bright and colourful fact books absolutely crammed with the kind of information that children not only find useful, but also find interesting.  The bestselling 100 Facts series is massive, and the latest addition is Butterflies And Moths by Steve Parker.

These factual books are full of 100 pieces of information grouped into topics, in this case including 'Clever Caterpillars' and 'Growing Up'. The contents page is really clear, and even my 6 year old chose to stop and look at it to see what was ahead.

Each of the 100 Facts is given an individual paragraph or two. Breaking up the text makes it much more fun for a child to read, makes the page look much more interesting, and is great for children who aren't yet ready to read pages full of writing. It allows lovely and varied use of illustrations, photographs, diagrams and other images, which draws children in even more, and really maintains their interest.

My children really enjoyed 100 Facts: Butterflies And Moths. They were fascinated by the close up photographs, and the 'hairy' moths. Realising a butterflies wing is made from scales was astounding, and they have really learnt a lot more than I'd realised they would, and pretty much felt the need to run and tell me every single fact they read. Clearly a hit.

100 Facts: Butterflies And Moths is written by Steve Parker (consultant Barbara Taylor), and published by Miles Kelly Children's Books. The rrp is £6.99 (although at the time of typing it is reduced to £4.00) and it has 48 full colour pages in a large format glossy paperback.

I think these books have a lot to offer any Primary aged child, and really do support their learning within school. To find out more or to see the huge range of titles available, take a look at the Miles Kelly website or our previous post, where we reviewed 100 Facts: Science and 100 Facts: Inventions.

Miles Kelly have very kindly offered 2 of my readers a copy of Butterflies And Moths. Entry to the giveaway is by Gleam form below. No entry is mandatory, but each extra task completed earns you more entries into the final draw. Full terms and conditions at the bottom of the Gleam form, UK entries only, the giveaway will end at midnight Sunday 24th July.
