Scooby Doo And WWE: The Curse Of The Speed Demon DVD Review

I was always a fan of Scooby Doo, so it's nice that my children have all enjoyed the TV show and movies too. The latest DVD release is a bit of a collaboration, and features some of the most colourful characters from the world of WWE, as well as some particularly monstrous Monster Trucks.

In typical Scooby Doo fashion, a trip to an off-road racing competition is made all the more exciting by the fact Scooby Doo and Shaggy have parked at the side of the track, which had my children laughing right from the start of the movie.

The surprise arrival of a mysterious racer called Inferno (who is determined to sabotage the race) turns the event on it's head. The racers are in pairs and teams, and the dynamics between the different vehicles, and how they come together to beat Inferno, make the film. It'd be remiss of me not to mention Penelope Pitstop and Dick Dastardly because it really reminded me of it!

The fairly random fact that lots of WWE superstars are competing is treated with a tongue firmly in cheek. This movie laughs at itself in places, which makes it more appealing to adults. It had me sniggering and my 6 and 8 year old boys laughing throughout.

The animation is exactly as you'd expect,  very familiar and although it's never startling or full of amazing modern technical special effects, it's Scooby Doo to a 't'. The movie is 'paused' for Scooby and Shaggy to make Scooby Snacks, Fred is always sensible, Daphne loves hanging around with the celebrities and Velma is unimpressed with everyone. This is everything you expect from Scooby Doo.

My children loved the ending, where the bad guy comes up against Scooby and the gang and a dummy car-driver. I don't want to give too much away, but the bad guys might just lose out yet again...and of course we have the inevitable unveiling of the REAL perpetrator.

The DVD has not only bonus content including 2 short cartoons, but also a bonus set of black stickers - which have proven a real hit!

Curse Of The Speed Demon is an original movie which is rated PG and has a runtime of 77 minutes. Available now to buy on DVD and Digital Download, priced around £6.99, instore and online including Amazon.
