Carlton (Mainly) Men's Book Bundle Christmas Giveaway

Books are a brilliant gift. They can be precious for many different reasons, and true treasures that we can all hold and own. They can be epics with a real sense of achievement when you have read them, or a few paragraphs long. Books don't have to be expensive or huge to make you laugh, cry, or feel nostalgic, and there is something for everyone, whatever age.

I love to buy books as gifts, and I find they can be especially good for the older males in your family. I liked the sound of all of these books myself, but I've chosen them with 3 of my (not quite so) young men in mind, so this the Carlton (Mainly) Men's Book Bundle Giveaway...

For my partner I've chosen Peter And Dan Snow's Treasures Of British History (rrp £30, currently £21). This is a gorgeous large format, hardbacked book in slipcase which, over 112 pages, examines British History via 50 of our most important documents.

Included in the book are document wallets, and replicas of ten actual documents, bringing a tangible sense of history for the reader. From the Magna Carta to Tim Berners Lee's memo for a World Wide Web, Mary Quant's ideas for a mini skirt and Shakespeare's King Lear Folio, this is a really fascinating book for anyone, and especially people with an interest in history.

The Geek Guide To Life by Colin Stuart and Mun Keat Looi (rrp £16.99, currently £11.89) is a hardbacked book with 192 pages explaining the 'scientific solutions to life's little problems'. I chose this for my 19 year old University student son. I am pretty certain being in the Tabletop Gaming Society already identifies him as 100% geek.

Full of bar charts and infographics, you will learn the optimum angle for skimming a stone and how to win at Rock, Paper, Scissors, as well as plenty of other secrets to give you a smug grin while everyone else wonders why you look so cool.... probably.

Another fascinating book which really does get you thinking....

How To Poo Your Way To The Top by Mats and Enzo (rrp £6.99, currently £4.89) is a 144 page paperback perfect for taking to read on extended throne visits. This is ideal for my 22 year old apprentice mechanic son. He works hard for long hours, then relaxes playing FIFA, watching David Attenborough, or giggling like a schoolgirl at Buzzfeed.

Very tongue-in-cheek, this is the sort of book we all think we should write at 3am after 15 sherries. Full of common sense and complete pie-in-the-sky idiocy, it manages to perfectly capture the illogical logic of a drunken 22-35 year old brain. I have to admit that this book also made me think... and gave me lots of hints about passing wind unnoticed in company.
