Hasbro Transformers 1-Step Turbo Changers Toy Review

Our latest review for Hasbro is Transformers 'The Last Knight' Turbo Changers. We've been sent Optimus Prime and Barricade 1-Step Turbo Changers (age 5+), plus the Tiny Turbo Changer Bumblebee (age 6+) to review. Promising super easy transformation, these should be the simplest Transformers yet...

I played Transformers with my little brother 30 years ago and now my big children are showing their younger siblings how it's done. Optimus Prime and Bumblebee may have withstood the test of time, but they are considerably less complicated than they used to be!

Packaging on the Turbo Changers is good, mainly cardboard and they are really quick to open - Christmas morning friendly. The only instructions are the back of the packaging - and don't really show 'how it transforms', but you can work it out.

Transformers The Last Knight 1-Step Turbo Changer OPTIMUS PRIME (age 5+)

As all fans will know, Optimus Prime is the leader of the Autobots - the good guys. He disguises himself on Earth as a Lorry - or a Kenworth Truck if you are a pedant.

This is a nice vehicle, which is surprisingly tight and will even take a bit of rough play. It's really hard to make Optimus Prime transform unless you put your finger on the front silver panel - then he springs instantly into his Transformer figure.

Transforming him back into a vehicle needs just a little adjustment to make it work most times, but is still very rapid and fairly slick. As you push on the correct area, it pulls the rest of the toy into the correct position very much like a pop-up book. It works really well! (short video at the end of the post).

Transformers The Last Knight 1-Step Turbo Changer BARRICADE (age 5+)

Barricade is disguised as a Police Car, but he is definitely a bad guy.

He was also more tricky to get the hang of. His bonnet pulls up and then an entire central column of the vehicle swings around. The easiest way to do this is to hold the feet and push down on the radiator grill. It takes a bit of practice to unclip it, but once you have the movement is seamless and transforming back to a vehicle is super smooth.

He is very impressive though. The Turbo Changers are really detailed moulds, so although the figures don't have a lot of movement, there's lots to see and fire imagination.

Transformers The Last Knight Tiny Turbo Changers Blind Bag Collectible Toys (age 6+)

There are 12 different Tiny Turbo Changers and we got the familiar yellow VW Beetle (but with his special movie facemask) Knight Strike Bumblebee.

Only around 5cm long, vehicle to figure transformation is 3 easy steps. The printing is good, but I have to say not fine enough and his face is more tentacles than mask.

Transforming is very simple and movement easy, the small size makes this a nice fiddle toy. This is exactly the sort of thing small children will carry around in their pocket - and I can confirm it survives the washing machine no problem.

You can see just how quickly and easily the Transformers 1-Step Turbo Changers transform in our video - as demonstrated by my 8 year old....
