  5. A good quality tent, we bought one that didn't have a sewn in ground sheet so we got cold and it rained so we got wet, my camping essential is my portable hob and kettle for a nice cup of tea before bed and waking up, and a good quality sleeping bag and air bed xxx

  52. A hotel booking!! Just kidding, the most important thing for a good nights sleep is your base so make sure you have a good mat or inflatable as you need to keep the cold and the bumps away from your body. As long as you can do that it should be plain sailing.

  61. I always take ear plugs. Sometimes the noises you hear when camping can make you a little jumpy especially as you are in unfamiliar surroundings. It also has the added benefit of keeping those creepy crawlies out ;)

  63. I have been camping a lot and my advice would be to take a duvet, not a sleeping bad. It's way more cosy, just throw a blanket over the top to stop any dampness

  81. A really decent cushion between you and the ground, preferably an airbed. It's amazing how after a few hours without it feel like you are sleeping on rocks!

  82. I've never been camping! Not sure of the proper name for it, but some kind of sponge mat to lay the sleeping bag on, in case the ground is uneven / lumpy!

  87. Inflatable mattress. The first time I went camping I tried using just a foam bedroll - never again! Oh, and a double-walled tent. If it hammers it down so badly that it seeps through a single-walled tent, that is one hell of a rude awakening.

  99. If you're not using an air mattress, you want something between your sleeping bag and the ground. If you are using an air mattress, then a good blanket is a must.
