I'm not pregnant just now thankfully, but I have been 5 times and I had some pretty interesting cravings. Mainly I just wanted beetroot and boiled brussels sprouts, but with my 3rd child (and only daughter) I dreamt of eating coloured glass. Whenever I saw coloured glass I felt I could taste it and it was so delicious. I did manage to beat that craving by eating boiled sweets, but I would wake up having dreamt I'd eaten the glass and in a panic about it. NEVER eat glass.
A few of the cravings, like Barbequed Beets, seem almost normal. And then we have more exotic choices, such as Brussels Sprout Blancmange... erm....no. It's nice to read the accompanying stories and realise most of the women were as surprised by these cravings as we are.
Then it starts to get a bit more exciting, with inspirational meals such as 'Tomato Soup with M&Ms', or 'Crab Sticks With Jam'. Mmmmm delicious....to someone somewhere...
There are a couple of recipes in the book which you definitely shouldn't try. I think Burnt Matches and Stone Wall might give you a little bit of a tummy ache...
The couple behind the cookbook, Vicky Jacob-Ebbinghaus and Juarez Rodriguez, got the idea after a pregnant friend admitted she was craving Oreos and Toothpaste. They photographed it and posted the photo on their blog. More pregnant women came forward to offer their cravings and Pickles And Ice Cream was born....
You probably don't fancy trying the recipes yourself, but if you'd like to see other people attempt to eat them, there is a video of brave volunteers tasting the creations. Bacon and Mars Bar Burger really does turn out to be a big hit...

Pickles & Ice Cream Pregnancy Cravings Book Giveaway (2 winners)
We were sent our copy of Pickles And Ice Cream for review.
Thankfully I didn't have any crazy or cravings during my pregnancies. With all four pregnancies I craved cherry tomatoes on the vine - I hated tomatoes before I fell pregnant for the first time so I was so surprised when I found myself eating them like sweets! With the girls I also craved all things lemon - from lemon bon bons to lemon cheese cake, lemon curd tarts and sherbet lemons... Since being a mum, I still love cherry tomatoes and I wouldn't say no to a lemon treat either! My poor sister craved Vienetta ice-cream and after eating one a day throughout her pregnancies, she piled on the lbs!
