Firstly, this was the most minimal packaging I've ever had on anything sent for review. I can't fault the Nerf crossbow because it survived the UK postal system, despite only being protected by a magic address label. Lightweight yet robust certainly!
The packaging is almost entirely recyclable card and ridiculously easy to remove, although the rubbery plastic ties are very strong, so cut them or it'll snap back when it breaks. Instructions are hidden away inside the cardboard base of the box - just in case you need them.
Your Dreadbolt arrives in 2 attached pieces which need clipping together into place plus the slide on scope and the 5 arrows.
Arrows can be clipped to the body of the crossbow for storage and easy access. To load, prime the crossbow by moving the spanner all the way forwards and then back to draw the string. Then insert the arrow into the groove. There's a small orange indicator to show when your arrow is home and ready to shoot.
Although I've no real doubts this is a robust Nerf shooter, the spanner seems quite brittle and bends and wobbles. It feels like it could be a weak link although ours has been fine so far.
Aside from the scary spanner handle, this Nerf Zombie Strike Crossbow has all of the usual features we expect from Nerf. Powerful action, good distance and it's pretty accurate on aim. There's a slide-on green Zombie Strike sight for even better aim - or to just look even bigger!
The arrows work well. They're amusing to look at, virtually painless when they hit and whistle so well that it's worth firing a few just to hear them - impressive!
The Nerf Zombie Strike Dreadbolt is suitable for age 8+ because it does need steady aim and a more mature nature (no knocking Ming vases off pedestals or shooting at your sister because she annoyed you). Power is great, aim good and weight is astoundingly light. The novelty of using arrows is great and the whistle awesome.
