Nerf Laser Ops Pro Alphapoint Review (age 8+) for Hasbro

We love Nerf and their latest release is the Laser Ops Pro range. Brand new laser battling blasters which bring Nerf, Laser Tag and augmented reality together in a brand new and very different type of battle to any other Nerf we've ever played with... and it's really rather fun.

In the box are 2 x Nerf Laser Ops Pro blasters and 2 x rubbery armbands to hold smartphones - which are optional. You will need 8 x AA batteries - 4 for each blaster. The packaging is great. Plastic-free and you have storage for your set afterwards to keep it all safe.

You can play with your blasters as soon as you've loaded the batteries (you'll need a small Phillips screwdriver). The blasters use genuine Laser Tag technology to register hits and keep score, and they are very light. You also never have to go and look for your ammo, as it's electronic - truly a blaster.

The Reload Button is at the base of the handle, and you also have a Power Button, Indoor/Outdoor Switch and Team Indicator. There are also the vital Health and Ammo Indicators.

There are 3 different modes of play - solo, team and free-for-all. You can play straight away without smartphones by using the lights on the blasters, but there is also a free Nerf Laser Ops Pro app. which really opens up the game and offers real-time battle intelligence.

The included wrist bands are rubbery and almost feel a bit sticky. It makes them very soft and flexible, but incredibly grippy. They are best worn over fabric too, because on bare skin we found they can pull out a few hairs!

They fit any of our phones, even with cases on, and all of our arms - however old or big we are. They are tricky to put on alone, but definitely not impossible. Mainly though, they're very secure and even running about, you are unlikely to ever drop a phone.

You can use the app. to customise and upgrade your blaster, earning power ups and prizes, and it will show you where your opponents are, and keep track of score and health.

The Nerf Laser Ops Alphapoint 2-pack is excellent fun. Whatever your age, firing at someone and making the proper 'pew pew' blaster sound, with light effects, is grintastic. The Laser Tag works really well, and the hit counter is easy to understand. With the app. you have even more on offer to maintain the excitement for older players and give everyone goals to aim for and rewards for doing so.

I honestly haven't heard my lot laugh and giggle so much in ages....

The Nerf Laser Ops Alphapoint blaster is also available in a 2-pack for £44.99 with two blasters and two armbands, and it is also available in a single pack at £29.99. You can find the Nerf Laser Ops Pro range on Amazon*.

  1. This is on Harry's birthday list but I wasn't keen to add until I'd seen some honest reviews. Thanks. I guess that's more ££s to find now as they sound great
