Totally Wild Fact-Packed, Fold-Out Animal Atlas Review for Carlton Books

The Totally Wild Fact-Packed, Fold-Out Animal Atlas by Jen Green is exactly what you'd hope. A big book with large scale colour pages full of all of the different animals you can encounter wherever you are on the globe.

Inside there are global maps and many larger scale maps for great chunks of the world, plus absolutely loads of information for each. Photographs and text support illustrations and although this is a fact book, the language used is modern and relaxed, so it doesn't feel like an educational book. Obviously it still has plenty to teach almost anyone...

The illustrations are really bright and bold, and there's plenty to look at on every page, even more so if your child is a reader. The information is in small, easily consumed chunks and isn't daunting for beginners or more reluctant readers.

The Atlas is already large scale and the fold out pages allow for really huge, poster-sized illustrations and maps, as well as larger pages full of lots of information. It's also much more 'fun' than a traditional book and something that really excites children and gains their interest. We all like a novelty.

When you've unfolded it to full size, some of the pages are massive. It allows the authors to really go to town and use that space to create 'project pages' for the individual continents.

Perfect for any youngster, especially those of primary school age, the Animal Atlas supports geography and science, and helps children understand about their world. Different terrains and weather systems are talked about, as well as migration and eating habits, and the effects humans have, including endangering species.

One of our favourite parts is the record breakers on each page. These are the sorts of facts my boys adore. Who wouldn't want to know the which whale can have a tusk up to 3m long, or how many species of alligator there are in the world?

This is a really fantastic atlas. It's far more interesting than a countries-only atlas, and has tons of information, yet there's still clearly so much more to learn. Ideal for launching internet fact-finding and information-gathering discussions with your child.

The Totally Wild Fact-Packed, Fold-Out Animal Atlas is written by Jen Green, published by Carlton Kids and available to buy now rrp £9.99, in large format with 32 full-colour pages, including lots of pull out pages so really it's 56 pages, and a wipe clean glossy cover.
