Amazing Optical Illusions Book Review and Giveaway Age 6+ Sent by Carlton Books

This afternoon's Christmas Present giveaway and review is a brilliant non-fiction book which has been sent to us from Carlton Kids Books to review. Suitable for any reader aged 6+, Amazing Optical Illusions is a book which challenges you to look at the world very differently! Especially when our eyes deceive us...

This is a fairly thick book in a large format and the illustrations are really big, so even I don't have to squint to see all of the effects. Inside the book are 96 pages with over 80 optical illusions - enough to satisfy anyone.

Each optical illusion is explained so that the reader understands what is happening and often exactly why it happens. This is a puzzle book with the answers on every page and there is a really varied assortment of different optical illusions and ways to trick our eyes, our brains, or both.

My 10 year old especially loves this book and so do I. I actually had an incredibly similar book for Christmas when I was around his age and I still have it now because it was a favourite. I'll never grow out of finding optical illusions fascinating.

Amazing Optical Illusions is modern and bright, with full colour throughout and big bold images and photos. It makes use of computer-generated images and modern technology to bring us much more than I had in my book as a child, and the illusions are just as much fun for me to try and understand as they are for my boys.

Amazing Optical Illusions is written by Gianni A Sarcone and Marie Jo Waeber and published by Carlton Kids Books. Glossy paperback in large format with 96 colour pages. Available to buy now priced £9.99rrp from all good bookshops, including online at Amazon*.

Carlton Kids Books have also offered a copy of Amazing Optical Illusions as a Christmas Present for one of my readers. Entry to the giveaway is by Gleam form below. 2. I don't recall much of my childhood but I do have one strong memory.... when I was 6, I 'saw' a flying saucer during the day time when I was returning home from a friends house. I remember running home to tell my mam and dad and then I drew a picture of it. My parents still have that picture in their photo album and when we look at it, they still say I was absolutely adamant that I had seen a UFO and I talked about it for months afterwards and told my friends, my teacher and nearly everyone I met! Looking back, I am sure I must have seen something strange in the sky and it must have been a UFO! Funnily enough, my favourite movie genre is horror/supernatural/alien movies and I often watch documentaries about UFO/ghosts and even the Loch Ness Monster sightings! And I have always loved Star Trek and Doctor Who too and Blake 7 when I was little!

  15. When my sister and I were children we used to stay overnight at our grandparent's house in a bedroom that overlooked the back garden. We had a fabulous long slide out there - it really was huge, probably about 8 feet high with a heavy metal frame. On morning we got up and looked out the window , only to see the slide was half in and half out of the garden stuck across the high wooden fence!
We excitidley ran downstairs to report this phenomena to our grandparents who told us not to be ridiculous, that is until we dragged them outside to see for themselves!
My grandad and dad ended up having to recruit several neighbours to help them move it back! I guess the would be robbers should have brought more hands along!

  57. Noticing a distant object high in the sky, I ran indoors to get the binoculars. When I finally managed to find said object and focus/zoom in on it, I was in hysterics when I saw it was a giant inflatable t-Rex 🦖. There had been one ‘tethered’ at a local car garage for months and it must have somehow broke free. Hubby and I watched it for a good 10-15 minutes as it disappeared into the distance. I still laugh now when I think about it. Imagine looking out of an aeroplane window and seeing it passing by. You couldn’t make it up!
