Don't Call Me Princess! Children's Book Christmas Giveaway with New Internationalist

This Christmas Present Giveaway has been sent to us by publishing co-operative New Internationalist. Don't Call Me Princess! is one of the funniest and cleverest storybooks I have ever read. Award-winning cartoonist Kate Evans' first children’s book takes a good look at 6 of our favourite fairytales and shows us exactly why being the princess wasn't such a great deal... I love this book.

Suitable for independent readers aged around 6+, but a good short read for humans of any age, this is a book which rips apart The Princess and the Pea, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, Beauty and the Beast, Rapunzel and The Little Mermaid. And it does it beautifully.

Don't Call Me Princess is narrated by a young girl, who speaks in rhyme and explains very succinctly why she doesn't want to be considered a princess. The illustrations are brilliant, with the girl's imagination showing us what she thinks when she hears fairy stories.

There is so much here to make children (and adults) think a little differently. Forget what you just accepted to be true and start to look beneath the surface, the reasons why, motivations and where it's leading. It's what we have tried to teach our children and I wish we had this book when our girls were young...

I truly love this book. It offers hope and understanding to any child who won't make it as a princess, or simply doesn't want to be one...

Don't Call Me Princess is written and illustrated by multi-talented Kate Evans and published by New Internationalist. Hardback in full colour, 32 pages with illustrations throughout. Available to buy now priced £9.99rrp from all good bookshops, including online at Amazon*.

  1. I'd like to think Rapunzel could have probably made an abseil rope out of her own hair, instead of waiting for the prince to ride by and rescue her.
