Reveal Family Game Review And Christmas Giveaway Age 8+ (Sent for review)

This review and giveaway is for the family game Reveal, which is a bit of a special one for us. It's been sent for review by the inventor himself and he's also sending a copy to one of my readers as a prize in my Christmas Present Giveaways. Suitable for 2 to 4 players or teams aged 8+, this is a game which has no questions, only answers, and we first tested a prototype almost 2 years ago.

It's lovely to see the development of a game like this and I'm delighted that Reveal has been picked up by Paul Lamond Games and is now available to buy in Smyths.

Inside the box are the game board, dice, 3 packs of Answer Cards (Movies, TV and Music), a cardboard sleeve/slipcase to conceal answers and golden tokens to keep score.

Everything stores in the box and there's minimal single use plastic, plus no batteries, so Christmas-morning and storage-friendly. There's no set up time involved and no complicated rules to learn, just open up the board and place your counter at the corner Start Space.

Youngest player starts and rolls the dice. Move around the board clockwise the correct number of spaces and  whichever image you land on decides the question category. There are 70 double-sided question cards in each category, so it'll be a while before you learn them all!

The player to the left of the active player takes the correct card and slides it into the cardboard sleeve, so that it can't be seen. They then slide it out to expose the first letter. You get 2 guesses or 30 seconds, whichever comes first, then a second row of letters is revealed and so on. Points won decrease with each row.

Points = golden medal tokens and once you have 15, you make your way to the centre space. The first player in the centre space who correctly answers a card is the winner.

Each game takes around an hour we've found, with 4 players including our 8 and 10 year olds. You could possibly play a little more quickly, but it's quite a nostalgic and chatty game.

There is an advantage to age, purely because you've heard of more things and had more experience, so this makes a great adult evening game, but it shines as a multi-generational team game. There are answers my boys are more certain of than we are, and answers that we've watched or played, but they haven't a clue about. Teaming up together we've found makes it more fun too, because you can randomly guess more of the words with two of you!

We really enjoyed playing Reveal. My boys recognised it from the beta version we have and were very happy to see a shiny new version. They were ecstatic when they got answers right and scored very well actually, my 10 year old even won a match. It's a brilliant way to encourage and support spelling and literacy skills, and it's fun!
