The format is really nice and this doesn't feel anything like a school book, it feels like a puzzle book. Text is minimal on many pages, so reluctant readers will not feel discouraged.
The illustrations are great. Modern and quirky, and with a lot of humour. There's plenty of space for younger writers if their letters aren't small and neat yet, but this isn't a 'babyish' book. I presented the set to my 8 and 10 year olds and they were both very interested.
It didn't take long before they were both solving puzzles and challenges. My 8 year old was delighted to find the answers at the back of each book so that he could check his work...
These are great puzzle books which are full of interesting facts and bits of information that children love to soak up. The puzzles are fun and quick, with rewarding outcomes. They engaged my boys, who didn't see it as 'work' or learning, they saw it as fun.
