Toy Story 4 is now available on Digital Download & Keep, DVD, Blu-ray and other formats for you to watch at home, and I have a DVD copy to give away to one of my readers. We were sent a copy for review and it's a great return to form...
The story features a cast of long-standing Toy Story characters, as well as a few new additions, and starts with a 10 minute segment looking back over what has happened to our animated friends over the past 23 years. It brought a definite lump to my throat...
The toys are now in the care of Bonnie, who has just started kindergarten. She makes herself a toy using junk modelling, and Forky (who is really a spork) comes to life. Forky is excited to be here, but obviously very immature, and Woody takes him under his wing.
Bonnie is off on a trip away with her parents and decides to take all of her toy friends. On the way Forky gets over-excited and leaps out of the window. Woody has no choice but to jump out and attempt a rescue. As often happens, it doesn't exactly go to plan. Woody and Forky are separated from everyone else and have to try to get home.
At the time the movie is set, Bo has herself set off to explore the world with her sheep, and the two close pals have a surprise reunion. Bo has found friendship at a fairground, and a few adversaries at a local antiques shop. It doesn't take long before Forky and Woody find themselves in the antiques shop - and it's Woody who is really in danger now. He has something that the leader of the antiques shop toys wants, and she's determined to get it.
There's a little romance in Toy Story 4, although really it's a story of long-term friendship, and there's a lot of nostalgia for older viewers. The peril is very mild and actually all of the toys are good guys overall, so it has a nice feelgood factor.
There is plenty to entertain both the children and adults in the audience, and this is my favourite Toy Story movie since the first one. A worthy sequel which proves that 4 isn't always too many. We'll watch this one again and again...
